Beach Fun Day 4: The Re-hot-en'ing

The kids did a lot playing inside this morning (and out on the deck). Instead of going to the pool this morning, we decided to go and try playing some mini-golf. This, in retrospect, probably wasn't a good idea (I have a hard time saying it was flat out a bad idea even though it was, simply because the idea itself was mine).

The problem was the heat index was 113. So it was really hot. Quinn really enjoyed playing, and he actually did a lot better than he did last time. Catherine on the other hand got bored pretty quick and stopped playing around the 8th hole, she was just too hot to really continue playing. I got to play the first three holes, then didn't get to start playing again until around hole 12 when Ginger had to take Catherine to use the restroom. Once they left we didn't see them again till the 18th hole (Catherine had decided she was done playing mini golf). Ginger played less holes than I did, so we really didn't get our money's worth from this trip. But Quinn had a blast, so from his perspective I'm sure he's glad we went.

After mini golf we came back to the house for lunch, then we headed out to the pool for a bit. The water level in the pool today was really low (have I mentioned our pool apparently has a leak in it?). We're suppose to be adding water daily, but by letting the water level slowly drop we got it low enough that Catherine is actually able to stand in the shallow section. So we hadn't been adding water so that we could keep it at a level that was fun for Catherine too (and this way it doesn't require someone to devote 100% of their time to watching Catherine).

After the pool we were going to have the kids nap, but Catherine just wouldn't go to sleep. Possibly she wasn't that tired due to her 5 hour power nap yesterday and sleeping in this morning until 9:30. Quinn on the other hand was asleep in under 10 minutes. So Ginger took Catherine down to the beach for a bit. I tried waking Quinn a couple times to join them, but he was really tired and just wouldn't wake up. Everyone came back from the beach not too much later due to impending inclement weather. The impending soon turned to occurring which is how I got the above image.

So, how did you finally get that ellusive lightening shot? What worked this time?

And it is a very cool image. But about that title... you weren't referencing the Highlander franchise were you?

Used 6-8 second shutter, changed the film speed to the slowest I could make it which I think is 200). I got lots and lots of pictures with no lightning and two with (the other shot has the lightning much further away and doesn't look as good in my opinion).

And yes, I was somewhat thinking of the Quickening when I came up with the title.
