Why Won't They Sleep In?

I'm getting old. I can't remember if I used the above shot already at some time prior to this or not. Bah, it's from several weeks ago, back when the hydrangeas were just starting to bloom.

So here's a question for all the parents out there. When the kids are in school there are times where we have to fight to get them to wake up and get ready for school. Catherine would regularly sleep until around 8 and we had to wake up at that point. And yet during summer when there's no school, both kids are getting up at around 5:30 AM. Has anyone else experienced this or is it just us? And if so have you figured out a way to adjust this behavior? Because I tell you, if I was the one getting up with them in the mornings instead of Ginger, it would really annoy me.

you are not alone!
with ours, on a w/e they have to come check what time it is as to whether they are allowed up or not. if it's too early they are told to go back to bed. but if it's past 6am they know that they can play quietly in their rooms until the house is awake. occassionally they we let them go down to watch tv first thing (it keeps them away from ruben - he would sleep till 9 every day given the chance but his brothers go and wake him up).

One word: daylight. Invest in some blackout shades.
