Trashedy
So tonight we had a visitor to the house. It was some kid going around trying convince people to switch trash companies. Now it seems like a decent deal since they're offering service for $69 a quarter (guaranteed that rate for a year) and our current company is currently charging us a little over $90 a quarter. So I run it by Ginger while the kid is at the door and we basically agree, why not, what's the worst that could happen, let's try switching. So as we're talking about it Quinn overhears and asks what it is we're talking about. So I explain that we're about to switch trash companies and that means there will be a new set of guys that come by to pick up our trash. Quinn starts looking really sad and then goes into his room and starts crying (not loudly, but he's obviously upset).
You see the kids have this thing where when the trash guys show up they run to the window and wave. They've been doing it for years and there was one guy that would always wave back. Now I guess Quinn believes he's established a bond with this guy because he was really upset that he might not get to wave to him anymore. Even though I explained there would be a new set of guys to wave to and Ginger pointed out that the guy that waved back hasn't been there for the past couple of months. I had no idea he was going to be that sensitive about switching trash companies. I asked Ginger if we should just not switch and her response was "It would save us almost $100 a year, go switch." Of course Quinn getting some alone time with Mom for consolation was noticed by Catherine who suddenly started pretending to be upset too so someone would pay attention to her. I was really hoping she wouldn't continue doing stuff like that, but apparently she is. At this point Quinn was mostly over it and he then started telling Catherine she was being silly by getting upset because it really wasn't that big of a deal. I also tried to lighten Quinn's spirits by explaining that it would save us $100 over the year, and that maybe we could use that to buy something fun. That seemed to erase the few concerns he had left.

we got a similar offer about 3-4 years to switch (from AAA to American). We were paying $80 and they were offering $55. We switched, no issues! But over the last 3-4 years there price has slowly drifted up to something in the low $80's. Not sure where the original company is now at.
Same deal here, we're going from AAA to American. So AAA at this point is above 90. The guy also said that if we were to just call American the price would be 90ish (so the lower rate is only good for this switching deal and the two seem to be comparable in rates independent of the switch deal), but if it takes 4 years to get back to 90, then in the long run it will have been worth it I suspect. And by then maybe AAA will give us a lower offer to switch back.
