Quinn Eats Vegetables

Had a long day today. Ginger wasn't feling that good this morning, probably a side effect of losing sleep over the past couple of days. I think she was doing better after some breakfast and coffee though. We went by a park and Quinn had everyone playing pretend baseball for while before the kids moved on to the playground. A bunch of pictures from the park follow.

After that we headed home and came up with some clever ways to give Quinn some of his presents. Instead of simply having yet another birthday party we decided to make him go on a scavenger hunt. I kept the kids busy outside while Ginger wrote up a bunch of clues and placed them in various spots.

The first one was completely outside and we had him running from the front yard to the back yard and then back again. It worked out well because he was forced to read the clues to the next location, so in addition to getting some exercise running, it also gave him a chance to practice his reading skills. And for all that work all he ended up with was a Whamo Tracball set.

After that we came inside for a bit and Quinn put together his General Greivous Lego Star Wars ship (you can see a picture of it in yesterday's post). I'm quite impressed with his ability to put these things together. It used to be when it would get hard he would give up or insist on having help. But this time he put the entire thing together all by himself. The only part he needed help with was occasionally locating the piece he needed. He likes doing the Lego stuff so much that he even started putting together the other one later in the day. While Quinn was finishing up his Lego project, Ginger put together another scavenger hunt for him. This one was all inside the house and it ended up with Quinn getting Mario Kart for the Wii (along with three extra wheels). And since he can only play by trying new foods, he polished off an entire snack pack of carrots in order to play. I made him eat one carrot for each race he did, and after the first couple he really didn't seem to have a problem eating them at all.

After Quinn finished off all the carrots was when he started in on the other Lego set. But before he had a chance to finish we went out for dinner at Coastal Flats. We picked that because Quinn wanted to go somewhere so he could play his Nintendo DS while dinner was being prepared. And since this is sort of his birthday weekend I didn't have a problem with that. Plus Ginger really likes Coastal Flats (and at the time it didn't occur to me, but next weekend for Mother's Day it will probably be too crowded to go out anywhere). While we were waiting for dinner Ginger got an appetizer of chips with a spinach and cheese dip, and lo and behold Quinn even ate some of that. Who knows, maybe the tide is turning on him being so picky about what he eats.
