What The?!? A Pool Post In October?

Normally today would be a Tennis lesson post day. But Quinn and Catherine had a birthday party to attend today that overlapped with the tennis lesson and the birthday party won out. The birthday party was at Cub Run RECenter. The party was Mario themed, so Catherine went as Princess Peach and Quinn went as Luigi, although Quinn's costume was basically non existent until he got the hat at the party.

This was the best shot I got with both Perry (the birthday boy) and Quinn in it. Perry and Quinn are still good friends even though Perry has started attending a public school this year and Quinn is still going to the Montessori school.

After the cake, candles and singing were done everyone headed to the pool facilities. The pool area is pretty impressive as you can see. Their website describes it as follows:

The natatorium leisure pool includes a 30-foot-high slide that exits the building in an enclosed tube, a 20-foot-high slide with an open tube, a spa, a vortex, a current channel, an open shallow water area and a water playground with interactive play features, a tiny-tot slide and a zero depth entry.

Quinn really liked the vortex area and was in that a lot. The current in there was just a little too strong for Catherine though and she needed to be supervised while in it. Fact of the matter is the current was probably a tad strong for Quinn also, but since all the water levels are around three and a half feet, he was fine since he could stand up (although the current was strong enough that he couldn't stand in one place). They also have a 'river' with moving current that circles around the vortex area. Both kids really seemed to enjoy that also although Catherine needed to be supervised there too since the water level is three and a half feet and the current is strong enough to push the kids along.

The kiddie area is very kid friendly and really shallow.

There are two huge water slides, one that's open and indoors, and then one that's covered and goes outside. There's a sign that states you have to be 48 inches tall in order to use the slides. When we measured Quinn he was about an inch shy. We decided to go ahead and give it a shot and simply head up and see if they would stop him from using the slides. As I had expected the guy running the slides didn't care at all. To Quinn's credit, he's really honest and almost didn't go on the slide since he knew he wasn't tall enough, but after a bit I convinced him to give it a shot. After that all he did for the rest of the day was use the slide whenever it was open. He even went up and did the covered one which is really dark as you slide through it. It kind of surprised me that he did it (afterwards he said the first time he did it he was a bit scared, but apparently not scared enough to prevent him from doing it again and again). I was using the slides some too while Quinn was doing them (Ginger was with Catherine at the time). The covered one is really fast. I noticed the smaller kids don't seem to get as much speed, but the adults really come down that fast. I think I bruised or fractured my hip one time in the landing area since it's been in pain ever since then (more worried it's got a hairline fracture or something since there doesn't seem to be any external bruising).

I had kid duty tonight since Ginger attended another stamp camp thing. She doesn't usually get home until midnight or later from these, but tonight she got home at just after 11. Not sure why tonight's session was so much shorter compared to previous ones. The picture above are the cards she made tonight.
