Pool Post: The Blog Crossover

It's a blog crossover! Barry and his clan came over today to enjoy the pool. The temperature was lower than it's been for the past couple of days (meaning it didn't break into the 90s until later in the afternoon), but the water felt kind of like a lukewarm hot tub from where it had been heated all week. You couldn't really ask for better conditions. We were the first ones to show up and when we got there the water looked like glass. That didn't last too long though as the kids immediately jumped in and started making some waves.

Quinn of course almost immediately went to the diving boards. I got to see something new he's been practicing. He's trying to learn to dive.

I think even though he wants to dive, he's still a bit gun shy about jumping straight in, so he ends up going in at some pretty odd angles sometimes.

The worst is when he doesn't end up going in at an able at all and just ends up doing a belly flop. I felt pain just watching a couple of his jumps, but it never seemed to phase him. He would just get out and not think there was anything wrong with what he had done at all. I would occasionally ask if a jump had hurt and would always get told no.

Catherine hung out in the shallow end for the most part and only ventured out to the deeper areas once or twice with Ginger. She really wants to jump off the diving board, so we're working on her swimming. She can swim really well for a pretty good distance (probably further than Quinn can swim in one shot), but she just can't pause and grab a breath like he can. So we're going to have to work on that some if she's going to eventually go off the diving board.

Reuben and Jacob showed no fear jumping in at any location.

Rueben had no problem swimming anywhere as long as he had a noodle. That boy really liked his noodle.

Faith wasn't too keen on the idea of getting into the pool at first, but after a while really seemed to warm up to it.

Catherine makes a splash.

Quinn enjoying the idea of pretending water is coming out of his butt much more than he probably should.

All in all a pretty good day at the pool. Quinn got a bit more sun than we would have liked and it looks as if he might have gotten burned some on his face, but he hasn't complained about it hurting, so maybe it looks worse than it is.

After the pool Ginger and I split up to run some errands. She ran by the library and I took the kids by the grocery store and the comic book store. I'm really hoping the temperatures settle back into the reasonable range soon. Quinn really likes to go out and play sports and stuff, but with it as hot as it's been lately, it's just not good for him to he out in that much heat.

I am always nervous when the noodle makes an appearance on your blog...
