Kid's Christmas Party

So we went to the kids Christmas party sponsored by my work today. They got to see Santa, play some games, decorate cookies, and some other activities. I think they had a lot of fun. The area for lunch was pretty crowded, so we all went down a couple floors to my office to eat, and the kids played on my whiteboard for a good bit. Quinn also passed out baseball hats to everyone. You may be asking why I have baseball hats in my office, that's because when Ginger was working in advertising she got a lot of free swag, a lot of which was baseball caps, I have them in my office as freebies for whoever wants to take them.

I got a couple of pics of the kids sitting on Santa's lap. I took the video camera, I should have filmed it since it's one of the first times Quinn has actually spoken to Santa. But for some reason, I never broke out the video camera and was just snapping pictures. I should have gotten out the camera and let Ginger film while I took pictures. That would have been the smart thing to do (which I guess explains why I didn't do it). Seeing Santa gave Quinn his first real experience in differentiating long term and short term goals. We had talked about it before we got there, and he was going to ask Santa for a Race Track. Then, as we were standing in line, he decided he wanted a Race Car. Once it was his turn to talk to Santa, he saw there were some cookies beside Santa. And then when asked by Santa what he wanted for Christmas, Race Tracks and Race Cars became a thing of the past and short term desires took over and he said "I want one of those cookies." I could almost see "Ooooo... Shiny!" going through his head. Catherine was a little more timid about Santa. She had what she was going to ask for planned out ahead of time also, but then clammed up when it was her turn to talk to Santa. Which is strange, since she's usually always pretty vocal.

After the party was shut down, we stopped at the garden center on the way home and got a Christmas tree, a real one. These things are getting more and more expensive every year. I remember getting a tree for like $12 when I was a kid, and that was if you wanted one of the fancy ones. We haven't put it up yet (it out in the garage adjusting to non outdoor temperature), so I'll probably try and get some pics of that tomorrow. Although I'm probably going to have to go to work tomorrow, since I'm in PA on Monday and Tuesday working on schedules for one of our projects. Dinner tonight consisted of the family going out to Red Robin for dinner (apparently they are guaranteed to be peanut free).
