Goodbye Dobie

Today we had to say goodbye to our companion and friend Dobie. Over the past few days we had noticed he was not feeling himself, so today we took him to the vet. We knew how bad he felt when we heard not one complaint on the ride to the vet, and he just laid down on the floor once we were there. Unfortunately Dobie had kidney cancer, and we had to say goodbye today. Since it was just myself and Quinn at the vet, James went to pick up Catherine so we could all have one more chance to say goodbye.

Dobie was truly the family cat. While Cythia clearly is a one person cat (James) and Emily has adopted myself as her companion, Dobie loved and was loved by every member of our family. He would sleep with James and myself every night. Then first thing in the morning he would greet Quinn for a little while. Then he would gently remind me every morning that he needed more (and warm) water in his dish. He was always gentle with the children - they could chase him and pull on his tail and he would just take it. Sure, he would hide when chased, but he did not hold it against them. He would be the first one to tell us when the children were crying, from the time Quinn was born until the day he died. And he was always coming around for attention from any visitors here at the house.

Since we almost lost him last summer, we were all grateful for a few more months with our friend.

Everyone here is very sad that we had to say goodbye to our dear friend. The house truly seems quiet without him. He was always "talking" to us about something!

Thank you Dobie for making our lives richer with your presence. We love you. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.

I'm so sorry you guys. He was a pretty cool cat. He would always coax me to pet him despite my allergies because he was so cool.
I will miss him.

So sorry to hear about your loss, just last week I had to make the decision to put my cat Chayce to sleep. He was only 5 and had FIP. No matter when it happens it is always too soon. I console myself believing in the rainbow bridge. Best wishes to you and your family.
